The ruins of churches and abbeys are an all too common sight in Ireland. Many were destroyed in wars, others from neglect. A few are being restored, or at least preserved, while many are left to the mercies of the elements. I have yet to wander through these ancient ruins without a deep feeling of awe
and more than a bit of sadness.
